FAQ

About spirulina in general

What is Spirulina?

Spirulina is a type of blue-green plant that contains protein, antioxidants and other nutrients. Spirulina has a high concentration of chlorophyll, which gives it its distinctive green color. The blue color is caused by phycocyanin.

What do you mean by "fresh"?

For us, fresh really means fresh. It is harvested fresh every week and delivered directly to our customers.

Our spirulina explicitly does not come from powder. So it is not dried and processed. It comes out of the bioreactor alive and is immediately packaged and/or frozen. It contains no additives and is therefore 100% pure.

What are the benefits of spirulina?

Spirulina contains proteins, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, making it a nutrient-dense superfood that has many potential health benefits.

There are studies showing that spirulina can increase energy levels, improve mental clarity and even help detoxify the body. Spirulina is a safe and healthy food that is definitely worth adding to your diet.

Can I experience side effects from spirulina?

It's not very common, but some people may experience some side effects from spirulina. The most common side effect is digestive upset, such as abdominal pain, constipation and diarrhea. However, these complaints are mainly documented by the use of spirulina in the form of powder and tablets. This is much less experienced with our fresh spirulina.

People with certain medical conditions, such as liver disease or high iron levels, should avoid spirulina. These conditions could be aggravated by spirulina.

How much fresh spirulina can I use per day?

The amount of fresh spirulina you can use per day depends on your age, gender and how active you are.

Our spirulina is a fresh product. You can't eat too much of it quickly, but just like with any other product: too much is not healthy either. It's kind of a matter of trying out what works for you. There are guidelines, although these are different for each provider. The guidelines for our fresh spirulina are 30 - 45 grams, for adults 15 - 45 grams and for athletes and pregnant women 30 - 75 grams.

How do I take Supergenes spirulina?

You can easily add it to your breakfast, for example to your yogurt or smoothie and even to your coffee. The color of your breakfast will be dark green, but because fresh spirulina has a neutral taste, you will not taste it. Did you know that we also have very tasty recipes on our website to use it in? At Supergreens, customer satisfaction is very important to us. Do you have a complaint about your order? Please contact our customer service so that we can find a suitable solution for you.

Due to the limited shelf life of fresh spirulina, free returns (without a valid reason) are unfortunately not possible.

At the moment we only deliver in the Netherlands.

Do you live abroad and would you like to receive Supergreens spirulina? Send an email to our customer service. Then we will notify you as soon as Supergreens is also available in your country.

Why are the green and blue colors separated?

Don't worry, this is completely normal. The substances chlorophyll and phycocyanin in the spirulina have separated. Shake the bottle to mix everything back together.

My spirulina has a strange smell. What should I do?

It is completely normal for fresh spirulina to have a strange smell after a week. This does not always mean that it is not spoiled, but we recommend that you throw it away just to be on the safe side.
